Sixteen percent of tourism sector staff have diploma or degree, said Higher Education Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin during the opening of the International Conference on Tourism and Hospitality Education in Malaysia.
He hopes that the recently established Malaysian Centre of Tourism and Hospitality Education (MyCenTHE) will help produce more skilled workers for the industry.
From 2020 onwards, about 50,000 skilled personnel each year should be produced.
To support MyCenTHE, the Ministry offered the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan worth RM16,000 for its students doing a two-year diploma course
