Learning the basics of business
Sixty students from SMK Bandar Utama 3 in Petaling Jaya and SMK Bukit Jambul in Penang will have the chance to be real-life entrepreneurs under the Young Enterprise (YE) programme.
Sponsored by FedEx, the students will learn the basics of business by setting up their own “companies” under the guidance of 10 volunteers from the company.
FedEx Express Malaysia and Brunei managing director Ramesh Kumar Singam said the company had supported the YE programme for the past 12 years.
“FedEx believes in nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit of young Malaysians and empowering them to own their future economic success.
“Since 2001, over 500 students in the programme have been developing their creativity, decision-making and critical thinking skills as they grow in confidence through their experience with this programme,” he said.
The YE programme is an annual nine-month initiative established by the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (ACHAM) for secondary school students to have a hands-on experience in entrepreneurship.
Since its inception in Malaysia in 1989, the programme has given 18,000 Malaysian students the opportunity to start and manage their own companies to gain a practical understanding of commerce and basic economics.
