‘Education In Ireland’ Office at TAR College HQ

The official opening of the ‘Education in Ireland’ office at the main campus of Tunku Abdul Rahman (TAR) College was held when the Irish Minister for Training and Skills, Mr Ciaran Cannon TD, visited Malaysia recently. This is to provide an opportunity to study in many universities in ireland for international students to get higher education Ireland.

The event was hosted by TAR College with the Ambassador of Ireland Mr Declan Kelly and other Irish officials in attendance.

“This is the first office established in Malaysia by ‘Education in Ireland’ and represents a major step in bringing Malaysia and Ireland closer together in terms of education services for student to be able to choose wide ranges of education courses offered by the both country. Higher education in Ireland is know are among the best in the world.

“Already some TAR College students are pursuing their higher degrees in Ireland and we hope that the opening of this new office will encourage more students to look into the exciting possibilities Ireland has to offer,” said Minister Cannon.

Prior to the official opening, a number of Memoranda of Understanding were signed between several Irish higher education institutions and TAR College to facilitate closer cooperation between Irish Universities and Institutes of Technology and TAR College.

Minister Cannon is visiting Malaysia for a series of discussions with the Ministry of Higher Education and other ministries relating to the development of closer collaboration at all levels of the two countries’ education systems. These discussions were initiated in 2011 with the signing of an important MoU between Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education and the Irish Department of Education and Skills.

In Malaysia, Ireland has traditionally been known for the quality of its medical degree courses and medical school scholarships, but Minister Cannon is engaged in discussions on collaboration in a number of other disciplines including science, ICT, business studies and the arts and humanities. Ireland is renowned for the quality of its education and particularly for the fact that it produces graduates that are fit for today’s high-tech industries. “Many of the world’s top ICT and pharmaceutical companies have invested in Ireland because of the quality of our graduates and these same companies are interested in coming to Malaysia, so collaborating closely across all disciplines is a win-win equation for both Malaysia and Ireland,” said Ambassador Kelly after the event. Global leaders in social media such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Paypal and Google have recently located their European headquarters in Dublin.

Enterprise Ireland, the Trade and Technology Agency of the Irish government is responsible for promoting ‘Education in Ireland’ and according to Michael Garvey, ASEAN Director for Enterprise Ireland, Malaysia is a priority country. “We are interested in all types of cooperation in Higher Education,” he said. “We are also promoting exchanges by professors and researchers, collaboration in research and in delivering Irish degree courses in higher education institutions in Malaysia.”
