Scholarship details
The United States Embassy is pleased to announce the FY 2013 competition for the U.S.-ASEAN Fulbright Initiative. Reflecting an enduring commitment to the Asia Pacific Region, the United States has elevated its engagement across Asia as a strategic priority. A central pillar of that strategy is to work more closely with multilateral institutions such as ASEAN. Marking 35 years of partnership between ASEAN and the United States, a pilot program has been created for a new U.S.-ASEAN Fulbright Initiative to deepen people-to-people engagement and strengthen our educational ties, as referred to in Secretary Clinton’s recent remarks at the U.S.-ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in July 2012. In response to that, the Department of State is piloting a small number of regionally competed new awards for Visiting Scholars and U.S. Fulbright Specialists that will support ASEAN initiatives. One of these new awards is the Fulbright U.S.-ASEAN Visiting Scholar initiative.
The Fulbright U.S.-ASEAN Visiting Scholar award is open to university faculty, foreign ministry and government officials, and professional staff of think tanks and other NGOs in ASEAN member nations to travel to the United States for scholarly and professional research for 3-4 months on issues that are relevant and useful to member nations, and central to the U.S.-ASEAN relationship.
